Supporting Australia’s booming infrastructure with Danfoss service and repair

Posted on 5-December-2017

Australia is currently embarking on the biggest wave of public infrastructure spending, the magnitude of which has not been seen for three decades.

A surge of rail, road and infrastructure projects are kicking into gear as budget has been given to support large scale projects across Australia.

Heralded as the most ambitious infrastructure spending in a generation, Australian economic consulting firm Macromonitor estimate that almost $100 billion in local, state and federal government spending will hit the economy as a result, this financial year alone.

Major projects include the Melbourne to Brisbane inland rail link and Sydney’s second airport at Badgery’s Creek. Other state based projects include in the Bruce Highway upgrade in Queensland, the North East Road Link and Melbourne city bypass in Victoria and the WestConnex and North West Metro projects in Sydney.

The infrastructure spending is likely to be comparable or larger than what was invested during the resources boom of the past 15 years with Craig James of Commsec highlighting that people tend to overlook this as its scattered around Australia, not centralised in key regions as was the resources boom.[1]

The North West Metro project is a new light-rail transit link currently under construction that will run from Sydney’s North West region, under Sydney Harbour, through to new underground stations in the CBD.

The project includes the construction of a four-kilometre elevated sky train between Bella Vista and Rouse Hill, as well as a 270-metre cable bridge crossing Windsor Road near Rouse Hill.

Impreglio Salini Joint Venture are completing the surface and viaduct works for this project and contracted Pacific Hydraulics in-house and on-site hydraulic service and repair work for the project due to our strong technical expertise and specialisation in Danfoss service and repair.

In-House Danfoss Service and Repair

Impreglio Salini required the repair of a range of Danfoss 90 Series pumps and Danfoss 90M042 motors. These components were repaired in-house at our fully equipped service workshop located in Seven Hills.

The components were repaired in the fastest time frames possible – the pumps were repaired within 1 – 2 days and the gearbox motor combination repair within 2 weeks. The repairs were tested at our in-house facility using the 160kW closed and open loop pump and motor dedicated test rig.

On-Site Danfoss Service and Repair

Pacific Hydraulics also carried out on-site diagnostics and repairs to the Salini straddle carrier and lifting machines where the major hydraulic elements for repair were Danfoss components.

As Australia’s No. 1 Danfoss service and supply centre, Pacific Hydraulics have a highly skilled team of mobile service technicians with the expertise to conduct on-site repairs.

This team attended the Mulgrave site of Impregglio Salini where our on-site technicians discovered contamination within the straddle carrier system. Still on-site, the technician thoroughly cleaned the controller and ran a series of tests to ensure functionality was restored. The straddle carrier was repaired within 1-day.

The two Lifting machines also required on-site diagnostics and repairs as they were not driving. Again the machines were tested on-site by calibrating the gauges and flow metres and our field service technician discovered that a new Danfoss pilot control valve was required.

Our technician was able to replace the unit and re-test the machines within 2-3 days. The replacement Danfoss pilot control valve also came with a one year warranty.
